Who killed Carpe Diem?
Yes, its official, Carpe Diem is dead
We’re sure you’ve heard the words “Carpe Diem”. It was taken from a Latin phrase that means seize the day, trusting as little as possible in the future. But it’s long gone now, we killed it. At BYHOURS we killed Carpe Diem because we think it’s not enough, we want to seize EVERY single moment, every hour, we want to live now!
BYHOURS wants people to take control of their time and live the way they want and choose to and this philosophy and lifestyle is exactly that.
We can see the Carpe Horam philosophy on the BYHOURS office walls with quotes from Steve Jobs, one says:
¨Your time is limited so don´t waste it living someone else´s life, don´t be trapped by dogma which is living with the results of other people´s thinking, don´t let the noise of other´s opinions drown out your inner voice and most important have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become, everything else is secondary.¨
But what is this new, mysterious philosphy and how do you Carpe Horam?
What is Carpe Horam?
Carpe Horam comes from Latin, it literally means seize the hour, to take advantage of every hour. Considered the modern philosophy of Carpe Diem. The main focus is on time and how we can use it to do more, feel more, live more. It encourages adventure, hard work and originality.
Carpe Horam doesn´t mean quitting your job and spending all your money, shaving your head and getting the tattoo you always wanted. However, it does mean tailoring your life to make the most of every hour. If you are at work give it your all, if you are with friends make the most of your time together, try new things you always wanted to do, step outside your comfort zone… one hour at a time.
What if all of us adopted Carpe Horam, would it make a difference in our lives? We think it would make a massive difference. Carpe Horam has an even bigger sense of urgency than Carpe Diem – the “right here and now” rather that the “later, tomorrow…”
How to Carpe Horam?
- Stop waiting. Start living.
- View time as precious and full of potential.
- Say “Yes” to what is important (and “No” to what is not)
- Bring your best to the table an hour at a time.
- Whatever you do: Be there fully.

- Trust yourself
- Have fun every day: let out the inner kid!
BYHOURS is partnering up with individuals and other brands with a Carpe Horam spirit to see how microstays can be used to take advantage of their time: used for work, when traveling, when on a motorcycle trip, when travelling around South America, going to a festival, on a work trip abroad…
